Write Simple offers informal, common sense hints, suggestions, tips & techniques and a few guidelines about how to write and everything that goes along with it (including much maligned and oft hated grammar & punctuation).

No vague theories

Whether you're in school, just brushing up your writing skills, need to write for your job or you just love writing, you're in the right place.

Writing is not easy

You know what it's like, don't you? You sit down at the keyboard to write, knowing exactly what you want to say, but somewhere, on the journey from the brain to the page, the confidence wanes, the message gets lost ...

A clear sentence is no accident

Some say writing comes naturally. That it's a given talent.  Others say it's an acquired skill.  One thing I know for sure; it ain't easy.

It's one of the hardest things that you can do

Would I do anything else? Not on a bet!

The only reason for being a professional writer is that you can't help it.           ...          Leo Rosten

We'll try to teach you not only how to write but and how to write well.  Whether you learn is up to you.

 About this Writer

I have been writing professionally for 30 years.  I have been a technical writer for more than 20 years.  I have written resumes for more than 15 years.  I have been creating web content for more than 10 years.  I have designed and optimized websites for more than 5 years.

I have written fiction, (including short stories, novels and the Great American Screenplay), non-fiction, (including travel articles, mystery stories and book & film reviews).  I have tried my hand at copywriting, business writing (including resumes, mission statements, sales letters, proposals and business plans), journalism, ghostwriting, freelance and contract writing.

I helped launch and publish New Mystery Magazine.

I have worked as a Staff Writer, Technical Writer, Documentation Specialist and Documentation Manager as a direct employee and freelance consultant for major New York corporations and financial institutions.

 About this Site

Twenty years ago, I was called upon to formulate and publish writing Standards & Procedures for several major New York financial institutions, which forms the foundation for the information on this site.  Already well acquainted with the work of Strunk & White, I became acquainted with the work of William Zinsser and Joseph Williams.  I have been attempting to write simply with clarity and style ever since.  I have rewritten and republished those Standards & Procedures in corporate manuals and on their intranet sites. Those standards are presented here along with everything else I know about writing.

I began work on this site when my son left for college.  I knew the importance of writing in his journey through the hollow halls of higher education.  I never communicated to him what I knew about writing which I thought was important and might be helpful. The information here is my accumulated knowledge and so much more.  Constructing this site has been a real learning experience for me.  I am still learning.  I hope you will, too.
